January 24th, 1972 – Japanese Sgt. Shoichi Yokoi is found on Guam living in a cave, where he had been hiding since the 1944 Battle of Guam.
January 27th, 1973Vietnam War: The Paris Peace Accords officially end the Vietnam War.
January 27th, 1983 – The pilot tunnel of the Seiken Tunnel, the world's longest underwater tunnel (53.85 km), is completed.
January 29th, 1989 – Hungary becomes the first nation of the Eastern Bloc to establish diplomatic relations with South Korea.
