Nearly 500 Valentine’s Day cards were delivered to soldiers near the DMZ this week, marking the first time a Washington congresswoman’s annual program has reached overseas.

Jin Pak was 6 years old when he left South Korea alone, flying halfway around the world to reunite with parents he barely knew. They had immigrated to the United States soon after his birth, leaving his grandparents to raise him until they were ready for him to join them.

Two American veterans of World War II who fought to free the Philippines in 1945 are headed back to help mark the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Manila.
