Bridge near Phu Bai, 1968

Seabees build a timber bridge near Phu Bai, Vietnam. The structure is 140 feet long, and is on Route 1.[ah]; Two battalions of Seabees under the 32nd Naval Construction Regiment are working on several construction project along a single 20-mile stretch of Route 1 between Phu Loc and Hue. Ambushes, mines and mortar attacks are among the hazards faced daily by the crews - a bridge the Seabees compelted in the area one day was blown up the same night and reconstructed the following day. One old reinforced concrete bridge at Phu Loc has been hit and repaired five times. "It's beginning to become monotonous," one Seabee commented.
