Crews tear down housing units to rebuild for the '64 Olympics.

Washington Heights, third U.S. housing project to be built in the Tokyo area, is now being readied as the site for the 1964 Olympic Village. Built on what was once the first Japanese airfield and laer as the drill field for training Japanese soldiers, Washington Heights has been 'home' to American families for some 16 years. Sprawling over 232 acres of rolling ground, Washington Heights once contained 371 family dwelling units with room for 870 families, 12 four-story buildings that housed another 550 unmarried personnel and nundreds of other facilities for American families.
