Sgt. Robert S. Blue, trumpet and second-cornet bandsman of the 7th Infantry Bayonet Division Band, started playing the trumpet when he was 27, when he was with the 8th Infantry Division at Fort Carson, Colorado. Taught by his friend James Maffet, Blue never formally learned how to play the instrument, but practices 4-5 hours daily and is now also teaching himself how to play the bass fiddle.
