Thuan Hung village defenders, 1963

A village defender receives a medal as his son watches. One of the villagers defenders recieves a medal from the province chief. The villager's young son watches by his father's feet. Defenders of the Thuan Hung village receive medals from Maj. Nguyen Thanh Hoang, the province chief. The two men were part of the few that survived and successfully repelled two nights of heavy mortar and grenade attacks, followed by a rain of fire from machine guns, shotguns and rifles from the Viet Cong.
