A Stars and Stripes newsboy in Japan, 1974

John Honke delivers paper to subscribers. Through it all, delivering the news has been what Stripes is all about. Most of the Stars and Stripes newspapers are hand delivered by newsboys such as John Honke to subscribers who live in on-base government quarters or in adjacent American housing areas. In 1974 there were about 73 youngsters between the ages of 12 and 18 employed as newsboys at all U.S. bases in Japan.
