Seoul Police and Soldiers Orphanage, 1959

Cheers Go Up for Capt. Chavez as the orphans, holding canned soft drinks afloft, surrounded their benefactor, nearly hidden from view in the center, holding one of the smaller children from the orphanage. The Seoul Police and Soldiers Orphanage receives military support from the Headquarter Detachment, Special Troops unit. Capt. Leo Chavez, commanding officer of Hq. Det., Special Troops took charge of the support to the orphanage at the start of his tour in Korea. The lacquerware program - which started in October 1958 - teaches the orphans the process of traditional lacquerware manufacturing. The items will be sold to bring in additional funds for the home.
