ASCOM, South Korea, Oct 1959: A trick performer when the occasion calls for it, the sentry dog is urged along on his hind quarters on a precarious platform by his trainer. The sentry dog might be called upon in the future to run swiftly along top of narrow walls in performing his duties. The 55th Quartermaster Sentry Dog Detachment, operating in the Army Support Command area for the past two and a half years, has 19 dogs — mainly German Shepherds — which are handled by 19 Koreans. The handlers are responsible for working the dogs, their daily feeding, grooming and health inspections.
