GOOD-WILL GIFT - Ellis O. Briggs (right), U.S. ambassador to South Korea, accepts a bear cub from President Syngman Rhee in a recent ceremony at Seoul. The cub is one of two bears which arrived in Washington yesterday as a gift from Rhee to Mr. Eisenhower. Korean President Syngman Rhee presents one of two bear cubs to Ellis O. Briggs, U.S. ambassador to South Korea. The bears - a gift from the Korean President to U.S. President Eisenhower - were captured by Korean soldiers and gifted to the Korean president, who then decided to gift them on. Eisenhower in turn gifted the bears to the National Zoo. Then National Zoo director Dr. William Mann identified the bears as Himalayan bears in an Associated Press article, noting that they would weigh around 500 pounds when fully mature.
