Exercise Mobex Hardstand, 1959

Combat military police are briefed on road traffic control. Class in traffic control is given by Capt. Edward Kupec. 7th Infantry Division troops jumped off from rear assembly areas in below freezing weather Wednesday morning, December 16th, and moved into positions in the third day of maneuvers in exercise Mobex Hardstand. The freezing temperatures on the third day turned the exercises into a battle with the elements as well as a test of division mobility and communications. Throughout most of the day 15 m.p.h. winds, sometimes reaching gusts of 25 m.p.h., cut through tent walls and chilled troops. The weatherman at Kimpo AB said the mercury dripped to 18 degrees above zero during the early morning hours and never climbed above 25 degrees.
