Anesthesia - Capt. William Rouman administers oxygen to a patient under anesthesia just before an operation. With six doctors, 10 nurses and 78 enlisted men, the 44th Surgical Hospital (Mobile Army) administers sick call to a daily average of 100 persons from the 1st Cavalry Division and other U.S. and U.N. forces in Korea. The hospital- located some six miles from the Demilitarized Zone - handles emergency operations and apart from an X-ray machine it also has an analysis laboratory, a pharmacy, three sterilizing units, a blood bank and six wards with a 70-bed capacity. It can be mobilized into an alert convoy within 45 minutes and once in the field can set up within 2 hours, ready to handle emergency surgery.
