Several United Service Organizations at U.S. military bases in the Pacific will host events this month to show appreciation for military families.

Participating centers received grants through The Walt Disney Co., which is sponsoring the day as part of National Military Appreciation Month, according to a USO news release.

In Japan, USO Okinawa, Sasebo and Yokosuka will host events, as will USO Guam.

USO centers will also receive “Operation Disney Care Packages” filled with Disney DVDs, books, toys and other products to help entertain troops and their families, the release stated.

USO Sasebo will show its appreciation for military families Saturday at Nimitz Park starting at 4 p.m. Highlights include free food, a surfboard-making contest and the movie “Surf’s Up,” which starts at sunset.
