ROKA marching band, 1957

The marching band of the Republic of Korea Army parades proudly across the new bridge at ceremonies on the day it was officially opened. A serious traffic problem was eased recently in Seoul when a pontoon bridge, built by Republic of Korea engineers, was opened to accomodate foot and bicycle traffic while the high bridge across the Han river is closed for rebuilding. Work on the pntoon bridge was done by members of the ROKA 906th Bridge Company, 209th Engineer Battalion. The 1,180 foot-long bridge is 12 feet wide and is designed to carry up to 50 tons although only pedestrians, bicycles and ox and horse carts will use the span. ROKA engineers built the bridge in six days.
