Pacific Stars and Stripes van in Saigon, 1964

Two Stars and Stripes circulation employees were injured and these Stripes circulation vehicles damaged in the Christmas Eve explosion at the Brinks Hotel BOQ in Saigon. Both employees, a Vietnamese driver and a newsboy, escaped serious injury. The driver was unloading a bicycle from the rear of the truck, which was facing the blast, when it occured. Another vehicle was flown in from Tokyo to keep up distribution. A photo of a Stars and Stripes circulation vehicle was published in the April 1965 issue of SandS, the Pacific Stars and Stripes employee newsletter. The van, used to distribute newspapers around Saigon, was heavily damaged parked close to the bombed Hotel Brink. Two Americans were killed and over a hundred wounded when a bomb exploded at the hotel - the main officers billet in downtown Saigon.
