Capt. Walter S. DeVeaux, CO of 7th MP CO., gets traffic routing orders from Lt. Col. W.R. Howard. The 7th Military Police Company (Prov.) - the Army's first pentomic MP company - was on a five-day field exercise with the 7th Infantry Division, pulling guard duty and local road patrols not in the regular 7th Inf. Div.'s area, but in the battle-scarred mountains of north-central South Korea, where field exercise Northwind was held. Lt. Col. William R. (Bull) Howard (right) - the 7th Infantry Division's field marshal - gives traffic routing orders to Capt. Walter S. DeVeaux, commander of the 7th Military Police Company (Prov.). Under the pentomic concept, MP platoons are dispatched for duty with the battle groups: same duties, but in now in the rugged terrain of combat training. Motor patrols and traffic control points maintain the division's supply routes and assist drivers whenever possible. Though most roads are unmarked, every MP is kept abreast of the fluid situation at the front and the disposition of troop units, making the MP a source of directional and road information.
