American advisers rescue Vietnamese villagers, 1963

Vinh Long, Vietnam, September, 1963

Villagers from Ba Dong, a tiny coastal hamlet about 75 miles from Saigon, disembark from a UH-18 helicopter at Vinh Long after being rescued from fighting that resulted in the death of one civil guard and the wounding of 14 others. The rescuers were American advisers from the 114th Air Mobile Co., who managed to squeeze 102 villagers into five Hueys (designed to carry 10 people each) and escape Ba Dong, with the Vietnamese Air Force providing support.
