44th Surgical Hospital in Korea, 1960

An unidentified radiologist examines a chest X-ray at the 44th Surgical Hospital (Mobile Army). With six doctors, 10 nurses and 78 enlisted men, the hospital administers sick call to a daily average of 100 persons from the 1st Cavalry Division and other U.S. and U.N. forces in Korea. The hospital- located some six miles from the Demilitarized Zone - handles emergency operations and apart from an X-ray machine it also has an analysis laboratory, a pharmacy, three sterilizing units, a blood bank and six wards with a 70-bed capacity.
