TOKYO — Arthur Godfrey will fly to Korea for an Easter weekend visit with American troops.
The famed TV and radio personality said Monday he will make a two-day tour, including; a helicopter hop to the Demilitarized Zone, an appearance on AFKN-TV and surprise visits to various clubs, service clubs and mess hills along the way.
Actress Shirley MacLaine was invited to accompany Godfrey on the trip. But a. picture commitment in the United States forced the vivacious redhead to cancel at the last minute.
Informed that Shirley won't be along, Godfrey scratched his carrot-topped head and said: "I'm a heck of a substitute for Shirley MacLaine. What can I do for those guys over there? They must be tired of hearing me play my uke."
Godfrey, on the last leg of an Asian vacation trip, is delaying work on one of his TV "specials" in order to visit, Korea.
